Cosmos is the "internet of blockchains." It was created with the express purpose of solving the most pressing problems of the blockchain industry. It seeks to build an ecosystem of independent, parallel blockchains that can work together. By offering an ecosystem of interconnected blockchains, it provides an alternative to the slow, expensive, unscalable and environmentally damaging process, namely the Proof-of-Work protocol used by Bitcoin. The project also aims to simplify blockchain technology for developers and make decentralised applications widely available. Using the Inter-Blockchain communication proto- cols, it will facilitate communication between blockchain networks, preventing fragmentation of the industry. It uses a Proof-of-Stake algorithm. Validator nodes that stake a larger number of ATOM tokens are more likely to be selected to verify transactions and earn rewards. Nodes that are tokens that are found to be acting dishonestly will be penalised or may even lose the tokens they have wagered.
